Obituary: Herbert K. Shay III, ‘Chip’, 55 of Fairfield
Chip was the owner and operator of H.K. Shay Trucking. He was an all-around nice guy, respected by his family and many friends.

Herbert K. Shay, III, “Chip”, 55, of Fairfield passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in his home. Born in Bridgeport, Chip had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. He was a graduate of Andrew Warde High School class of 1981.
Chip was the owner and operator of H.K. Shay Trucking. He loved fishing, trucks, especially his Peterbilt, and animals of all kinds including his four beloved cats. Chip was an all-around nice guy, respected by his family and many friends. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to the many Shay events. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Emily Palmer Shay of Fairfield; his loving mother, Barbara McQuillan Shay of Fairfield; a brother, Kevin Shay and his wife Leslie of Fairfield; sisters, Deborah and her husband Robert “Duke” Sherwood of Fairfield and Cindy Kozlowsky and her companion Thomas Stockell of Stratford; nieces and nephews, Tayra Shay, Jason and Tara Shay, Christopher Sherwood and his wife Jackie, Julie Sherwood, Megan Kozlowski, and a great-niece and nephew, Kayla and Brandon Shay. He was predeceased by his father Herbert “Skip” Shay, Jr., a sister, Kimberly Shay and a brother James Shay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CT Humane Society, 455 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880.
