Obituary: Jean Dawe, 72, Of Fairfield

Jean was a nurse and managed the ICU at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Later in life she became a school nurse at Eagle Hill in Southport.

Jean Helen Thomas Dawe R.N., age 72, of Fairfield, beloved wife of Robert Dawe M.D. for 45 years, died on Wednesday December 14, 2022 surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Belle Harbor, NY on November 28, 1950 to the late Arthur and Mildred Fuchs Blum.

Jean attended the College of New Rochelle as a sociology major. Two years later she realized she had another calling and transferred to Saint Clare’s School of Nursing in NYC where she graduated first in her class. While working in the CCU there she met the love of her life, Bob over a cup of coffee. She then became an ICU nurse manager at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. A cup of coffee turned into 47 years together and a beautiful family. While living in Connecticut, Jean became the President of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary. Later in life, she became the school nurse at Eagle Hill in Southport, a job that she loved dearly.

Survivors in addition to her loving husband, Bob, include her daughters, Lauren Dawe Walker and Jillian Elise Dawe. Jean is also survived by Lauren’s husband, Brad, and their four beloved children, William, Charles, Theodore and Madelyn Jean. In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Arthur Blum (Laurie) of CA, Ellen Gray (Laurence) of Belle Harbor, NY, Paul Blum of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Peter Blum (Kathy) of Atlantic Beach, NY and many nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her brother Thomas Blum. Friends and family may call on Friday January 6th from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in The Lesko Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 7th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Anthony Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private.
