Obituary: John D. LaGreco, 81, Of Fairfield
John served in Korea during the Vietnam War and left active service with the rank of Captain.

John D. LaGreco, age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Madeline M. LaGreco, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Angelo and Julia LaGreco, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1983. John received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame where he was also enrolled in the R.O.T.C. Program.
Upon graduation he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. John served in Korea during the Vietnam War and left active service with the rank of Captain. He later received his Doctorate of Law from St. John’s Law School and was admitted to the Bar in New York practicing Criminal Law, then later, Real Estate Law. After moving to Fairfield, John worked in real estate throughout the area.

He loved playing golf, tennis and his trips to the casinos. A generous, kind man with a calm demeanor, John was very family oriented and loved spending time with both immediate and extended family. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it.
He will be sadly missed by his son, John P. LaGreco, his wife Beth Appleton and their daughter, Madeline Elsie LaGreco of New York, NY; two brothers, Donald LaGreco of Huntington, NY and Michael LaGreco and his wife Ellen of Atlanta, GA; a very dear brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Mantia, his wife Cristina and their son Alex Paul Mantia of New York, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved son Charles “Chuck” LaGreco.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road, Westport. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends Monday until 8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
