Obituary: John ‘Jack’ E. Farrell, 89

In 1996, he retired from the Continental Can Company after a 40-year career as the head of marketing, research and development.

John “Jack” E. Farrell, 89, of Westport, the beloved husband of 58 years to Marianne Farrell, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Jack was born in Chicago to the late Ernest and Rose Farrell and was an avid athlete and outdoorsman. He graduated from Bradley University having achieved a BA and MBA. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the CIC in Germany following WWII.

Jack moved to Westport in 1968 and has been a residence since. In 1996, he retired from the Continental Can Company after a 40-year career as the head of marketing, research and development.

A lover of classical music, Jack often attended the opera in NYC with his wife. He was a passionate and talented golfer and enjoyed matches with his good friends at Brooklawn Country Club and of course, his lovely wife. He was also an active member of the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston. Jack was a kind and caring person, always ready to help anyone in need.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan K. Vasone and Kathryn R. Mawicke, both of Newtown and Mark E. Farrell of Westport. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Jason and Samantha; his great granddaughter, Charlotte and his nephew, Michael Farrell. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James W. Farrell.

Friends may greet Jack’s family on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. directly at Christ and Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Ln. in Westport. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service. Interment will be private.
