Obituary: John Pettit Jr., 28, of Fairfield

Jake, a Fairfield Warde graduate, served two tours of duty in Afghanistan with the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of Lance Corporal

John Charles Pettit Jr. passed away suddenly on October 2, 2016 at the age of 28. After graduating from Fairfield Warde High School, Jake enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He attained the rank of Lance Corporal.

Jake was enrolled at Southern Connecticut State University, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jake was passionate about the outdoors. He could be found either in a tree stand or hip deep in a river.

Jake was loyal to his friends and always had a contagious smile on his face and a joke to share. He was fiercely protective and loved his family deeply. Devoted to his brothers and sisters of the Corps, he will meet them again one day at the gates of Valhalla.

Jake is predeceased by his grandparents, Jerry and Peggy Werber of Rumson, NJ and John and Peggy Pettit, of Little Silver, NJ. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Mindy Pettit of Fairfield and Sea Bright, NJ as well as his two sisters, Maggie Pettit of Stamford, CT and Ellie Pettit of New York, NY. Additionally, Jake will be remembered by his aunts and uncles, Jack and Carol Frost, Randy and Barbara Werber, John and Peggy Griffin, Jill and Duce McGonegal, Michael and Patricia Beer, as well as many cousins and dear friends.

Calling hours will be held Thursday October 6, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Lesko and Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT 06824 with a Memorial Service to be held Friday October 7, 2016 at 11 a.m.

Military Honor and a reception will immediately follow at the Gaelic American Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
