Obituary: Joseph F. Blackall, 94, of Fairfield

Born in Ireland, Joe was a longtime active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield and a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Joseph F. Blackall, 94, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 61 years of Eileen Blackall, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 26, 1922 in County Clare, Ireland, the son of the late Michael and Ellen Blackall, he immigrated to the United States in 1948 and had been a Fairfield resident since 1960. Joe was a long-time active member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield and a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife Eileen include three beloved children, Kathleen Blackall of Fairfield, Eileen Gann and her husband John of Mountain View, CA and George Blackall and his wife Colleen of Hershey, PA; five cherished grandchildren, Emily, E.J. and Jessica Gann, Harry and Patrick Blackall, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Fairfield.

Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. If desired memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
