Obituary: Julius G. Kerekes Jr., 89, of Fairfield

A Korean War veteran, he worked as a ballistic engineer for Remington Arms and later became a professor of mathematics.

Julius George Kerekes Jr., 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Stella Kerekes, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on January ll, 1928, he was the son of the late Julius George Kerekes Sr. and the late Mary Kerekes. He graduated from Bassick High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Citadel, and received his Master’s degree at Central Connecticut State University.

During the Korean War, he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas where he met Stella. They wed in 1953 and were happily married for 56 years until her passing in 2009. He worked as a ballistic engineer for Remington Arms after the war and later became a professor of mathematics at Norwalk State Technical College for 30 years.

Julius was a devout Roman Catholic and loved attending Hungarian Mass at St. Emery’s Church on Sunday. He enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of the family dogs, working in his garden, fixing cars, and was a big fan of the New York Mets.

Julius is survived by his loving sons Julius III, Christopher, and Thomas and his daughter Petra and her longtime boyfriend, Peter Boatright of Norwalk.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Bridgeport Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Services of CT for the care and compassion provided to their father during his illness. In accordance with his wishes all services for Mr. Kerekes are private. The Spear-Miller Funeral Home 39 South Benson Rd. Fairfield, Ct. is assisting the family with arrangements.
