Obituary: Kenneth M. Eckert, 77, of Fairfield

Ken, who served as an MP in the U.S. Army Reserve, had a lifelong career in commercial banking, most recently at Patriot Bank in Fairfield.

Kenneth M. Eckert, 77, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 54 years of Joanne Eckert, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital following a tragic accident.

Born in Queens, N.Y.—the son of the late Gustav and Katherine Eckert, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 40 years. Mr. Eckert received his Bachelor’s Degree from Hobart College and an MBA from St. John’s University.

Ken served as an MP in the United States Army Reserve. He had a lifelong career in commercial banking beginning at Manufacturers Hanover Trust & Co. in the Empire State Building in New York City, and most recently at the Patriot Bank in Fairfield, CT.

Mr. Eckert also volunteered his time and served on the boards with Habitat for Humanity and Fairfield Community Services. Ken was a longtime member of the Pequot Runners Club and a regular among the morning crew at The Edge Fitness Club. He was an avid and passionate gardener and took great pride in his landscaping and lawn.

In addition to Joanne, his loving wife and sweetheart since the age of 16, he is survived by four beloved children, Carolyn Eckert and her husband, Dana Gentes of Northampton, MA, Susanne Eckert and her husband, Ed Puchalla of Seattle, WA, Jennifer Crotty and her husband, Christopher of Pelham, NY and Brian Eckert and his wife Tracey of Norwalk; eight cherished grandchildren, Marty, Roy, Louise, Delia, Emma, William, Griffin and Caitlin; a loving brother, Donald Eckert and his husband, Terry Foster of New York, N.Y.

Friends may greet the family Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private.
