Obituary: Kenneth A. Von Holtz, 73, of Fairfield

He was a retired detective for the Fairfield Police Department where he also served as the first 'Officer Friendly.'

Kenneth A. Von Holtz, 73, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Betsey Von Holtz, passed away peacefully Monday, July 30, 2018 in his home. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Theodore and Hilda Von Holtz, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a retired detective for the Fairfield Police Department where he also served as the first “Officer Friendly.” Following his retirement Ken worked in the credit card fraud division at Peoples United Bank.

Survivors include two beloved children, Kenneth A. Von Holtz and his wife Kimberly of Valparaiso, IN and Donna L. Von Holtz of Trumbull; two step-children, Laurie Anne Griffin and her husband Ed of Trumbull and Bill Kenny and his wife Joanne of Newtown; a brother Arthur Von Holtz and his wife Judith of Southbury; grandchildren, Savannah, Kristopher, Kyle, Connor, Kathryn, Allyson, Sean, April and Nicholas; and a great-grandchild Leon. Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
