Obituary: LeRoy Allen Chimini (Lee), 75; Fairfield Native

Lee worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Public Roads for more than 40 years with assignments in major cities.

LeRoy Allen Chimini (Lee), 75, of Chester, MD, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 in his home. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late August and Elvira Domenichelli Chimini, Lee was raised in Fairfield. He graduated from Andrew Warde High School and the University of Connecticut where he received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering.

Following graduation Lee began his career with the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Public Roads. He remained with the Department for over 40 years with assignments in major cities throughout the United States. He eventually settled in the Washington D.C. area until his retirement.

Lee was an avid runner and was an accomplished craftsman working with brick, tile, roofing, plumbing and electrical work. He had a culinary talent that began helping his mother cook when he was young. He loved cookbooks and mastering techniques of the cooking trade. His additional hobbies included wood refinishing, fishing and ballroom dancing.

Lee will be sadly missed by his wife, Michelle Chimini of Chester, MD; a brother, Robert Chimini and his wife Katherine of Stratford and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Carol Ann Chimini, sister, Jacqueline Giannone and brother-in-law, Joseph Giannone. A memorial service celebrating Lee’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
