Obituary: Margaret M. (Peggy) Hayes, 99, of Fairfield

Peggy worked in the USO during World War II, entertaining the troops and was voted "Miss Liberty." She was a nurse's aide for over 30 years.

Margaret M. (Peggy) Hayes, 99, of Fairfield passed away on Thursday February 23, 2017 in St. Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull after a brief illness.

Peggy was born in New York City and was a lifelong Bridgeport/Fairfield resident residing most recently at the Bishop Curtis Home in Fairfield. She was a former Certified Nurse’s Aide for more than 30 years at the Carolton Chronic Convalescent Hospital where she was referred to as the “Irish Storyteller.” Peggy briefly worked as a secretary for a real estate office, the Fairfield Citizen, and the Naval Dept in Bridgeport.

During WWII she was very proud of the fact that she worked in the USO and entertained the troops. She was voted Miss Liberty during her time with them.

Peggy was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Survivors include several cousins. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday March 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St, Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private in St. Michael Cemetery.
