Obituary: Margaret 'Peg' Clark, 85; Lifelong Fairfield Resident

Clark's career in elementary education spanned many years as a teacher and principal.

Margaret Perry Clark (Peg), 85, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital.

Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Burr Perry, Sr. and Margaret Perry, she had been a lifelong Fairfield resident.

A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Mrs. Clark’s career in elementary education spanned many years. She taught at Grasmere Elementary School in Fairfield. Peg then began a 14 year career with the Region 15 School system in Middlebury from 1976 thru 1990, serving as elementary principal of both Shepardson and Johnson Schools. She later oversaw the construction and the opening of the Middlebury Elementary School where she became a dedicated and well admired principal until her retirement.

She was a member of the Southport Congregational Church where she participated in the Bible Study group. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Mill River Wetlands Committee and also volunteered for other local charities. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Brooklawn Country Club, played at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course and in the Ladies League at the Par Three course on Old Dam Road.

She also enjoyed sailing at the Southport Beach Lodge and skiing. Peg loved spending time with her friends and loved to teach and play Mahjong and also initiated a small investment group .She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include a beloved daughter, Cynthia L. Herlihy of Dallas, GA; a sister-in-law, Ann Perry of Fairfield; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Burr Perry, III. She was predeceased by her brother Burr Perry, Jr.

A memorial service celebrating her life was held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the Chapel at Southport Congregational Church, with the Rev. Sharon Blackburn officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Southport Congregational Church, 524 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT 06890 or the Mill River Wetland Committee, 476 Old Mill Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
