Obituary: Margaret (Peggy) Corcoran, of Southport

Peggy retired as a Ward Secretary for the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield.

Margaret (Peggy) Corcoran, of Southport, beloved wife of the late James J. Corcoran, passed away peacefully Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in County Kerry, Ireland, the daughter of the late Daniel and Bridget O’Connell, she had been a Fairfield and Southport resident since 1955.

Peggy retired as a Ward Secretary for the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. She was an active long-time member of the Gaelic American Club where she sang in the Glee Club. Peggy was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and later, St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She loved knitting scarves for family, friends and many charities. In her later years, Peggy enjoyed staying in touch with her many family and friends both home and abroad through Facebook.

Survivors include three beloved children, James J. Corcoran and his wife Betsy Reid of Lincoln, MA, Patrick W. Corcoran and Jan Buck of Elon, NC and Mary M. McCartney of Fairfield; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Corcoran of Dover, DE; a sister, Hannah McInerney of Meath, Ireland; seven grandchildren, Laura, Charlie, Kellye, Sean, Christopher, Katlyn and Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Ethan; and many supportive nieces, nephews and cousins both in the United States and Ireland. In addition to her loving husband James, she was predeceased by a son, Daniel Corcoran, great-grandson Jaxson and eleven brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to the medical staff of 9 North at St. Vincent’s for the compassionate care provided to Peggy during her stay. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606.

As Peggy often said on Facebook, "to all my family and friends all over the world, stay safe and may God hold you all in the palm of his hand."
