Obituary: Maria Orabona Lapreay, 51, of Fairfield

After having her kids, Maria was a stay-at-home mom for 13 years & later found her true career passion as a preschool teacher at Earthplace.

Maria Orabona Lapreay, 51, of Fairfield, beloved wife of John Lapreay, entered into eternal life on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Born in the Bronx, NY and raised in Long Island, NY, Maria attended Fairfield University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. She went on to become an insurance underwriter for almost 10 years. After having her children, Maria was a stay at home mother for 13 years and later found her true career passion as a pre-school teacher at Earthplace. Maria had a great adoration for reading, golf, religion, theatre, Yankee baseball and Fairfield U basketball. Her true passions in life were time spent with her family, cooking, traveling, history, and home decorating with items from Home Goods. Most vacations included a visit to an important historical location.

Maria was an amazing host and entertainer. For over 20 years she hosted Thanksgiving followed by Friendsgiving without breaking a sweat. The more people she had to cook for, the better. Maria was an excellent communicator and truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know people.

In addition to her devoted husband, John, Maria will be remembered by her loving children, Michelle, Joey, and Erica Lapreay; her cherished parents, Lee and MaryAnn DeFeo Orabona; two siblings, LeAnn Orabona O'Hara and Thomas Orabona; in law, Albert and Laraine Lapreay; sisters-in-law, Jodi Lapreay and Tara Orabona; brothers-in-law, David Lapreay and Christopher O'Hara; and nieces and nephews, Camryn O'Hara, Reagan O'Hara, Matthew Orabona, Andrew Orabona, and Olivia Carpenter.

A memorial mass was celebrated on Sept. 22. Her family would prefer memorial contributions to be directed to: Earthplace (www.Earthplace.org).
