Obituary: Patricia M. Mahakian, 94, Of Fairfield

The following obituary of Fairfield resident Patricia M. Mahakian, 94, is from Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home:

Patricia M. Mahakian, 94 of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Ashod K. Mahakian, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 23, 2022. She was born in New Haven to the late Harold and Ida (Maturo) Hughes and was a lifelong Fairfield resident.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from New Britain Teachers College (CCSU) and taught in both Milford and Fairfield.

Patricia was an avid reader, enjoyed the challenge of the NY Times crossword puzzle, and took a great interest in current events. She had a talent for spotting treasures at tag sales and flea markets and will be remembered for her sense of humor, strong spirit, and Jeopardy matches with her son Richard.

Patricia is survived by her four loving children, Mary, John, Richard, and Alison. She will also be missed by her granddaughter, Jessica (Thomas III) Wilcox and great grandchildren, Thomas IV and Adaliene, as well as several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Whelan.

A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, January 7, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Interment was private.
