Obituary: Peter G. McGonagle, 55, of Southport

Peter G. McGonagle, 55, of Southport, the beloved husband of Mary Jo (Schmitt) McGonagle and loving father of Lily, Julia, Grace and William, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2018. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Edward and Mary (Sullivan) McGonagle and was a longtime area resident.

Peter was a graduate of Colgate University and Fordham Law School. He worked in mergers and acquisitions at Skadden Arps in NYC and later served in senior executive positions at Trilegiant and Cendant Corporations. In 2006, he acquired Macton Corporation, which he currently owned and operated.

Peter’s true drive in life was his family and he loved nothing more than spending his free time with them. He was a music enthusiast, an avid runner and had major sweet tooth. Peter had adventures in piloting and beekeeping and always found peace in meditation.

In addition to his wife and kids, he will be dearly missed by his siblings, Ted McGonagle and his wife, Mary Ellen of Grenada Hills, CA, Maria Melrose and her husband, Clark of San Francisco, CA, Rosemary Percival and her husband, Russ of Lone Jack, MO and Christina Haase and her husband, Bard of Westerly, RI.

Friends may greet Peter’s family on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Interment will be private.
