Obituary: Robert J. Edmonds, 74, of Fairfield

A lifelong Fairfield resident, Bob served on the Fairfield Fire Department for over 30 years and also worked as an electrician.

Robert J. Edmonds, 74, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Judy Edmonds, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Donald and Margaret Edmonds, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident.

Bob graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and attended Penn State University. He served on the Fairfield Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was an active member and past president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 1426. In addition to firefighting, Bob worked as an electrician. He was a handyman in every sense of the word. He loved building furniture, woodworking and working on his house and in his yard. He was an avid and accomplished trap shooter and a member of the Newtown Fish & Game Club, the Atlantic Indians and N.B.S. Bob also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was a member of the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters. Bob was a proud Eagle Scout and served on the Eagle Board of Reviews for many years.

In addition to his loving wife and best friend, Judy, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Judith Edmonds of Fairfield; a brother-in-law, Michael Palmer of Fairfield; a cousin Frances Nunn of Montana; and three nieces, Jessica, Rebecca and Melissa. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry (Hank) Edmonds and a sister, Nancy Edmonds.

Friends may greet the family Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private in Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, 600 Jennings Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
