Obituary: Robert Kaps, 53, of Fairfield

He always clapped first. He always clapped the loudest.

And he was always the last to stop clapping.

Bobby Kaps was life’s biggest fan.

And on September 6th, Bobby passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife Mo and his children-Nicole (22) and Miles (17). He is survived by his mother Joan Kaps and brother Rick Kaps.

Born in New York City, on February 23, 1963, Robert S. Kaps was a graduate of both Kinnelon High School and Fairfield University and he built a successful career in the telecommunications industry.

But Bobby’s successes reached well beyond his profession. He possessed a genuine passion for life, family and friendships. And his sincere dedication to his loved ones was one of his greatest accomplishments. Whether you knew Bobby for 20 years or sat next to him for 20 minutes on Metro North, you would consider Bobby to be your friend.

Bobby would regularly remind his children that “90% is simply showing up. 10% is what you make of it”.

Bobby always showed up. And he always made the most of it.

He showed up at Fairfield Prep rugby matches and Lauralton Hall cheer competitions. He showed up at Fairfield U reunions (even if it wasn’t his graduating year). He showed up to compete in Tough Mudder and Leatherman races and in every Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. And “The Kapper” always showed up for the 6:07 train ride home with his friends.

Bobby applauded all of life’s little moments. A memorial to celebrate Bobby’s ‘Larger-Than-Life’ life will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 2 p.m. at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the Kaps Family has requested that donations be made to CT Hospice to support the nurturing staff that cared for Bobby.
