Obituary: Sally (Mercurio) Ward, 79, of Fairfield
She was the co-owner of Mercurio's, a well-known and highly respected business in Fairfield for more than 100 years.

Sally (Mercurio) Ward, 79, of Fairfield, the beloved wife of Walter Ward, died in her sleep on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Bridgeport Hospital. She was born in Bridgeport to the late A. James and Grace Mercurio and was a lifelong Fairfield resident.
Sally graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1956 and received an associate’s degree in retail marketing from Becker College in 1958. She was the co-owner of Mercurio’s, a well-known and highly respected business in Fairfield for over 100 years. Every day, Sally looked forward to seeing her smiling customers and exchanging life stories with each of them. She was on the Town Economic and Development Commission for over 10 years and in her spare time, she liked to play bingo and was an avid bowler. Sally also enjoyed swimming at the Fairfield YMCA.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving and devoted son, Timothy Ward of Fairfield. She will also be missed by her niece and nephew, who lovingly called her “EO”, Sara Hyde of McLean, VA and Paul Hyde and his wife, Annie of Scottsdale, AZ; her brother-in-law, Brian Hyde and great niece, Katie Hyde, both of Winchester, VA. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Hyde; her brother, Charles Connell and her nephew, Jim Hyde.
Friends may greet Sally’s family on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
