Obituary: Samuel Waller Hawley Jr., 76, of Fairfield

Samuel Waller Hawley Jr., 76, of Fairfield, beloved husband for 50 years of Ingrid Edstrom Hawley passed away peacefully Wednesday March 8, 2017 at Bridgeport Hospital.
Born in Bridgeport and son of the late Samuel Waller Hawley and Florence Roberts Hawley, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident.

Sam attended Exeter Academy and Andrew Warde high school, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and then graduated from Babson College. He started his investment career at Bankers Trust in NYC. Later he became a financial advisor at Carreau Smith, then moving to Advest and First Albany and was currently employed by Janney Montgomery Scott.
He previously served on the Town of Fairfield Finance Committee and the Fairfield Joint Retirement Investment Board; he served on the Board of Directors at Oaklawn Cemetery, and was a lifelong member of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. He was a past member Country Club of Fairfield and member of Fayerweather Yacht Club; Sam loved fishing, hunting and golf and time spent at the family cabin in Kent, CT.

Above all else, Sam loved spending time with his family especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors in addition to his wife include two beloved children, Samuel R. Hawley and his wife Tara of Fairfield, and Britt Hawley McDonald and her husband Frederick of Los Angeles, CA; His nephews John Hawley and wife Patti, Marc Hawley and wife Merrie, Ben Hawley, and Tom Davis and his wife Ann; their children Heather, Danielle, Stephanie, David and T.W.; seven cherished grandchildren; Sam, Liam, George, Peter, Andrew, Owen, and Madison. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce Hawley and sister, Caroline Davis.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Interment will be held privately in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Greenfield Hill Congregational Church Youth Ministry Fund.
