Obituary: Sarah M. (DiPietro) Romano, 93, Of Fairfield

Sarah Romano, née DiPietro, 93, of Fairfield, CT, passed away on December 16, 2023, with her daughters by her side. She was born on July 10, 1930, in Norwalk, CT, to Antoinette and John DiPietro. A former resident of Dagsboro, DE, and Stratford, CT, Sarah was a graduate of Norwalk High School and worked for the City of Norwalk as the Assistant Town Clerk until her retirement in 1992.

Sarah will be remembered as one who was fiercely devoted to her family. She was an exceptional baker and cook, and nothing brought her more joy than making delicious meals and treats for everyone. Sarah also took great pleasure in telling stories about growing up, the things she loved doing, and the people she remembered with affection. Her other passions included music, dancing, the New York Mets, and bragging about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sarah is predeceased by her sweetheart and husband of 54 years, Salvatore; sister, Lillian DeMaio; and brothers, John and Michael DiPietro. Surviving Sarah are her children, Dennis Romano (Marti) of Moraga, California; Jo-Ann Metzinger (James) of Fairfield; and Pamela Roman (William) of Trumbull; as well as her grandchildren in California, Michael Romano and Sarah Cody (Kevin), and great-grandchildren, Michaela and Cora. Also surviving Sarah are her siblings, Janette Walters and Gary DiPietro, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be celebrating Sarah's life with visitation hours on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road in Fairfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk, CT.
