Obituary: Thomas Gerald Doherty Jr., 89, Of Southport

Thomas Gerald Doherty Jr. of Southport, CT, husband of Eileen Colby Doherty, passed away at age 89 on October 20, 2023. Originally from Stratford, he was the son of Thomas Gerald Doherty and Kathryn Saur Doherty.

After attending Fairfield Prep, he then graduated from Brown University. After graduation he became an Air Force navigator where he enjoyed his travels around the world. He then spent many years working at Perkin Elmer and finishing his career at United Technologies.

In his early years, he could be found on the baseball field, then enjoying tennis and golf. He was a dedicated Yankees and UConn basketball fan. Some of his favorite beaches and relaxation spots included Fairfield, Cape Cod and Delray Beach, FL.

He was a long time resident of Southport, where he raised his family with his wife, Eileen.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter Sarah and her husband Gary, his sister Sheila Drakeley and her husband George, a number of cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John G. Doherty.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Anthony of Padua in Fairfield, CT on October 26, with interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford, CT. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: http://www.fairfieldscholarshipfoundation.org or www.diabetes.org.
