Obituary: William Richard Schmitt, 62
He was a compassionate man, never lacking in wisdom or worldly advice to give to those he loved.

William Richard Schmitt, age 62, of Easton, passed away the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. Born to Emily Marion (Perera) and Edward Holland Schmitt, William was raised in Chappaqua, New York. He stayed in New York for many years before relocating to Connecticut in 1989. William earned his BA in political science from Hobart William Smith College and later, his MBA through Fordham University. For many years William worked as a stock analyst in New York City before ultimately becoming a managing director for an investment firm in Westport.
William was an avid outdoor sportsman, particularly mountain biking and skiing. He competed in several 24-hour mountain biking races and traveled across the world, including Alaska and the Austrian Alps, to take advantage of the best skiing for his adventurous spirit. He was a compassionate man, never lacking in wisdom or worldly advice to give to those he loved. His positive mindset and tenacious nature never left him, even after his diagnosis of ALS in 2018.
