Officer Hurt In Fight With Suspect After $1,000 Theft: Cops

Charges were pending Monday against the 28-year-old suspect.

FAIRFIELD, CT — An officer was injured in a confrontation with a suspect after about $1,000 in merchandise was stolen Sunday from Stop & Shop, according to Fairfield police. When officers saw the suspects pushing a grocery cart with stolen items at Maplewood and Howard avenues in Bridgeport, one of the suspects ran off and the other fought the police, scratching an officer's arm, Capt. Robert Kalamaras said in an email. Charges of larceny and interfering were pending Monday against the 28-year-old suspect, according to Kalamaras.
