Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Recognized by Town of Fairfield
Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick Recognizes Programs that Help Ovarian Cancer Patients and Survivors
Almost 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States every year, and about 14,000 lose their lives; and each year during September, women living with ovarian cancer, their families and supporters, along with patient advocacy organizations, come together to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and celebrate national Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Town of Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick issued a Proclamation in support of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month but was not available to present it due to the recent death of her mother. Former Fairfield Selectwoman and State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey presented the proclamation to Stratfield resident Michele Kaplan, who is an ovarian cancer survivor. Kaplan is involved with the two organizations mentioned in First Selectwoman Kupchick's proclamation, Clearity and Discovery to Cure at Yale School of Medicine.
Clearity is a national organization that provides a free Treatment Decision Support program and shares the latest information on treatment options; educates women about biomarker tests to determine the molecular characteristics of their cancer; and guides women to clinical trials, as appropriate; and Clearity’s Steps Through OC program provides professional psychosocial support for ovarian cancer patients and caregivers.

The direct connection between the research lab and clinical patient care makes Discovery to Cure the leading center for women’s reproductive cancer research and treatment. It is focused on advancing the Prevention, Early Detection & Treatment of Women's Reproductive Cancers.
Despite the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, Clearity and Discovery to Cure have remained steadfast in its dedication to women living with ovarian cancer, providing all programs and services, with a goal to provide all patients access to the most advanced treatment information, personalized for them.
