Parent Assaulted Fairfield Coach After Girls’ Soccer Game: Police

The man is accused of choking the coach in the parking lot over an incident that involved his daughter that occurred during the game.

WILTON, CT — A Wilton man is accused of assaulting an opposing coach in the parking lot after last night’s girls’ soccer game between Wilton and Fairfield Ludlowe at Wilton High School. The man’s daughter had been involved in a fight that broke out between several players on the field during the game. Sherman Eagan, 47, left the parking lot after allegedly choking the coach and striking him in the chest and was later arrested at his Wilton home, police said.

Punches were thrown during the melee on the field and three players were ejected from the game, according to the Fairfield Citizen. After the game, Eagan confronted a Ludlowe assistant coach in the parking lot and began yelling at him and accused him of assaulting his daughter during the game, according to police.

Witnesses told police that Eagan then choked the victim and struck him in the chest. Eagan was pulled off the victim by other coaches and parents and then left the scene in his vehicle, according to police. Eagan was arrested a short time later at his home after refusing to go down to Wilton Police Headquarters to speak with investigating officers, police said.
