Patch Poll: Do You Agree With Fairfield Out-Of-Towner Beach Ban?

The town received hundreds of positive comments from residents about recent changes to its beach policies. Do you agree with them?

FAIRFIELD, CT — The town of Fairfield last weekend introduced a new rule, limiting weekend admission to town beaches to residents only.

The move was prompted by an influx of both local and out-of-state visitors, who caused overcrowding as well as excessive traffic and garbage, according to First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick. In addition to banning out-of-towners, officials also erected temporary fencing and posted signs notifying beachgoers about increased parking fines.

Kupchick told the Board of Selectmen earlier this week that she is legally able to limit beach access because the coronavirus pandemic has created a risk to public safety. She declared the beach policy change a success and said the town received hundreds of positive comments from residents. Do you agree with them?
