Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Garbage Truck In Fairfield: PD

The incident occurred Wednesday morning near Camfield and Bloomfield drives, according to Fairfield police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A 28-year-old victim was killed early Wednesday after being struck by a United Carting garbage truck near Camfield and Bloomfield drives in Fairfield, according to police.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed, but Fairfield Police Lt. Edward Nook said that next of kin have been notified.

Police were contacted at about 7:15 a.m., and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The State Medical Examiners personnel took the victim from the scene," Nook said in a statement. "[Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials] also arrived on scene to investigate. The operator of the garbage truck has not been charged at this time and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital."

Details of the crash were not disclosed, and the driver's condition was not immediately available.

Members of the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit are "actively investigating this incident," according to Nook.
