FAIRFIELD, CT — A pickup crashed into a Fairfield firetruck that was responding to a collision and vehicle fire Saturday on Interstate 95, according to authorities.
Firefighters were called around 4:30 p.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle accident with injuries on northbound I-95 near Mill Plain Road, the fire department said in a news release. Two of the agency’s vehicles responded, with one positioned to protect police and firefighters at the scene.
The pickup was traveling in the left breakdown lane at a high rate of speed when it hit the firetruck that was blocking emergency crews, according to the department, which reported police at the scene were able to stop the pickup’s driver and are investigating the incident.
