Via the Fairfield Museum: FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Museum will host its family friendly Pie Night from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the historic Sun Tavern on the Fairfield Green, 611 Old Post Road. The public is invited to come sample pies and seasonal snacks, partake in Fairfield trivia and enjoy interactive demonstrations from food historian Leslie Evans.

This year, admission is free if you bring your own pie and recipe to share.

“We are looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful pies the locals are cooking up this fall,” said Michael Barraco, program director at the Fairfield Museum. “This is a fun way to bring the community together to recall an old Fairfield tradition in a modern way.”

Back in the 1800s, Fairfielders visited neighbors on Thanksgiving weekend, sampling a variety of pies at each house. As the revelers moved on, the group grew larger as the hosts and hostesses at each house joined the party. Eventually people were sitting in hallways, on stairs and throughout the houses.

The event is $5 per person, but free for museum members or those who bring a pie. If you’re baking, let the Fairfield Museum know by emailing MBarraco@fairfieldhs.org. More information can be found at Fairfieldhistory.org/programs-events.
