Post Road Welcomes New Japanese Restaurant

Kiraku Takes Over Al's Place

Post Road is home to some spots that have never changed (driven by the Smoke For Less store lately?), but recently the main drag welcomed a new restaurant in a familiar location.  Kiraku Japanese Asian Grill, located in the former space of Al's Place, a billiards' bar, is a bright new addition to the Fairfield restaurant scene.

Kiraku has made this former bar into a sophisticated spot. The restaurant is divided into two separate dining spaces that seamlessly flow into each other. The decor perfectly captures the serenity of Asian styling. It's a bit more upscale than the typical sushi spot, though Kiraku does offer call-ahead take-out too.  There is no delivery service yet.

From Fin and Tombi to Wild Rice, Post Road does already have its fair share of Japanese and Asian-inspired restaurants, but Kiraku offers something different than the others - mainly a huge menu.

Sushi is a large component of Kiraku's menu, but this restaurant jazzes up the Japanese staple by offering highly unique and stylized selections.  When is the last time you bit into a roasted duck and caviar roll (Phoenix) or noshed on a lobster, king crab, mango, and avocado roll (Shining)?  If you are less daring, the usual suspects are all here (spider, rainbow, California, spicy tuna, etc.)

If your tastes run more toward cooked cuisine, Kiraku has a whole host of teriyaki (choose from shrimp, lobster, filet mignon, chicken, vegetable) and noodle and rice dishes that span the world from Thailand and China to Japan (pad thai, fried rice, soba noodles.)

Special dishes include Malaysian red curry, Thai green curry, and crispy red snapper with Thai sweet chili sauce.

Kiraku isn't cheap...the appetizers hover in the $5 to $12 range, while entrees range from $12 to $20.  The restaurant does offer a well-priced lunch special served daily (except Sunday).  For under $10, you can choose two sushi rolls or opt for a hot dish.

Kiraku Japanese Asian Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m., Sunday.
