Rate Increase Under Consideration For Fairfield's Sewer Usage Bills

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield’s Water Pollution Control Authority on Wednesday is scheduled to discuss a possible sewer use rate increase for the current fiscal year.

As of now, Fairfield's sewer usage rate for residents is $5.85 per Hundred Cubic Feet (ccf), and under consideration is an increase to $6.35/ccf.

The typical residential customer's annual sewer bill in Fairfield would go from $351 to $381 under the proposal, according to officials.

Michelle Gore, Fairfield's Water Pollution Control Utility general manager, is scheduled to present the recommendation to the authority during Wednesday's meeting.

According to Gore, the increase would fall between Westport's rate of $6.20/ccf and Trumbull's rate of $6.715/ccf.

The authority is considering scheduling a public hearing on the possible rate increase on Sept. 2. The hearing would be held virtually via Zoom, with a notice of public hearing scheduled to be published in The Fairfield Citizen on or before Aug. 21.

Public comment is listed on Wednesday's agenda, and officials encourage residents to submit comments before the meeting by emailing sewers@fairfieldct.gov.
