Sacred Heart University Launches Construction Management Bachelor's Program

FAIRFIELD, CT — Sacred Heart University has launched a Bachelor of Science in construction management through its School of Computing & Engineering in the College of Arts & Sciences.

The program combines engineering principles, business strategy and field experience. Students will study project safety, estimating, cost control, scheduling, contracts, risk management, sustainability and digital construction technologies, according to the university.

The curriculum also requires students to complete a minor in business.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures cited by the university, about 46,800 construction manager positions open annually, and median annual earnings exceed $106,000.

“Construction management offers graduates strong job prospects, competitive salaries, and opportunities to work on projects that have a lasting impact on their communities,” said Kevin Bowlyn, the construction management program director.

“Construction management is the process of planning, coordinating, and overseeing a construction project from concept to completion,” Bowlyn said. “Construction managers are the leaders who bring together everyone involved in a project, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the design specifications.”

The university said the program is aligned with the American Council for Construction Education. Faculty members have professional experience in the construction industry.

Sacred Heart said its location provides students with access to employers and internship opportunities involving commercial, residential and public-sector projects in the Northeast.

Dual-degree options also are available for students seeking to pursue graduate-level credentials while completing their undergraduate studies.
