Sacred Heart University Student to be Remembered in Bright, Festive Manner

Kaitlyn Doorhy, 20, died Saturday after being struck by a car on Friday; memorial service will take place Thursday in her hometown.

Kaitlyn Doorhy will be remembered at a memorial service in her hometown of Mattituck, New York on Thursday the same she lived her life — in a bright and festive manner.

Doorhy died Saturday at the age of 20 from injuries suffered when she was hit by a car while crossing the street near the 2900 block of Madison Avenue in Bridgeport.

Doorhy was set to begin her junior year of college at Sacred Heart University today (Aug. 25).

Doorhy’s family is requesting that attendees of the memorial service in New York wear “bright, festive clothing” to celebrate her life, according to the funeral home.

More than 700 students gathered at a candle light vigil outside Sacred Heart University on Friday night.

She was a beautiful person,” Darla Doorhy, Kaitlyn’s mother, told the Connecticut Post. “She was a leader.”

Kaitlyn Doorhy was also honored in her hometown with a memorial placed outside Mattituck-Cutchogue High School on Saturday.

Molly Waitz started the memorial shortly after 3 p.m. and told The Suffolk Times she did so to honor her friend and to provide comfort for others by giving them a place to leave happy memories and flowers.

“Kaitlyn would not want to see us sad,” Waitz told the Times. “Think of her smile and pay a visit (to the memorial).”

According to the Connecticut Post, Brandon M. Pouncie, 28, of Bridgeport was the driver of the car that struck Doorhy and has not yet been charged, but the accident remains under investigation.
