FAIRFIELD, CT — A free screening of the documentary The Street Project (thestreetproject.com), about a global, citizen-led fight to make streets safer, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the Fairfield Public Library, organizers announced. The event is open to the public.
The family-friendly film is 52 minutes, and will be followed by a community conversation with a panel of local and regional experts who are involved in safe streets advocacy across Connecticut.
"The Street Project Documentary was produced and directed by CT native, Jennifer Boyd, who has produced and directed more than 25 documentaries, nine of those films have won EMMY awards," organizers said in a statement. "Film screening is presented by the Fairfield Public Library, with special thanks to partners Stratfield Village Association (stratfieldvillageassociation.org) and Bird Scooters (bird.co)."

"Since the early 2000’s, the pedestrian and cyclist fatality rates have been steadily increasing throughout the US and around the world," organizers said. "Amid public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic, the year 2022 was one of the deadliest on record for fatalities involving motor vehicles and pedestrians and/or cyclists. This film explores the issues and choices behind this deadly phenomena and shares the story about the global, citizen-led fight to make our streets safer. After the film, local advocates and Town representatives will take part in a speakers panel with Q&A from the audience to discuss the issues raised in the film and how they pertain to communities in Connecticut."
