Search Resumes for Fairfield's Max Maisel at Charlotte Pier in New York

The warmer weather has allowed crews searching for Fairfield’s Max Maisel to expand their search at the Charlotte pier at Lake Ontario where he was last seen.

Divers were spotted on Tuesday afternoon checking a spot that was previously covered by ice, according to Jeff Rusack, a reporter for News 8 in Rochester.

Maisel, 21, was last seen the night of Sunday, Feb. 22, after leaving the Perkins Green apartment complex at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He is a third-year professional photographic illustration student at RIT.

Maisel is the son of ESPN senior writer Ivan Maisel and Meg Murray.

Ivan Maisel posted the following update on Twitter on March 1:

“We want to thank the Rochester Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies for their heroic work in severe conditions. While they have urged us not to leap to any conclusions about Max’s fate, logic indicates that it will not end well. We continue to be buoyed by the love and support of friends and family from across the country.”

A passerby reportedly saw Max on the Charlotte pier around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, when it was windy and snowy, but the person added that Max was dressed for the weather.
