Shooting At Southport Restaurant Investigated; 1 Injured: Fairfield PD

FAIRFIELD, CT — One person was injured Sunday in a shooting at Wafu Asian Bistro at 3671 Post Road in Southport, according to police.

The victim, who Fairfield police did not identify, suffered a gunshot wound to one of his arms, which authorities do not believe is a threat to his life. He was treated for the injury in Bridgeport Hospital.

Details of what led to the shooting were not disclosed, but stemmed from an altercation at the restaurant. Fairfield police said that the department was alerted to the incident at about 12:15 a.m. from numerous 911 calls reporting shots being fired at the restaurant.

"First arriving officers from Fairfield and assisting officers from Westport found a large crowd dispersing from inside of the restaurant to the parking lot area," wrote Fairfield Police Lt. Michael Paris in a statement. "Employees from the restaurant reported hearing shots fired following the altercation however there were no gunshot victims found by police.

"Approximately ten minutes later, police were notified by Bridgeport Hospital that they were treating a gunshot victim who claims to have been shot in Southport."

The preliminary investigation determined that the victim was shot at the restaurant, and police found shell casings and "Several items of evidentiary value" at the scene.

The investigation remains "ongoing and active," and the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau urges anyone with information about the shooting, or who may have cell phone video of the incident, to contact the bureau at 203-254-4840.
