Snapping Turtles Spotted On Roads In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Animal Control is receiving reports of snapping turtles in the road across town and advising residents to call them if you see a turtle in need of help. Officials say May and June are the nesting season months for turtles and the Turtles can travel long, dangerous distances trying to find the right spot to lay their eggs.

Officials say to call the Animal Control at 203-254-4857 or Fairfield Police non-emergency at 203-254-4800 if you see a turtle in the road that may need help getting safely to the side.

“The turtles are never picked up or relocated due to the importance of leaving them in their home range,” the animal control wrote in a post on Facebook.

The pictured snapping turtle pictured was helped across Mill Plain Road on Friday morning, according to the animal control.
