The Sourdough Is Always Fresh At Flour Water Salt Bread In Fairfield
The new store, in the Brick Walk at 1215 Post Road, is the chain's fourth Fairfield County location.
FAIRFIELD, CT — At the new Flour Water Salt Bread shop in Fairfield, sourdough is not just the name of the game, it's the whole game.
The Fairfield site, which opened earlier this year in the Brick Walk at 1215 Post Road, is the chain's fourth Fairfield County location, and owner Rob VanKeuren tells Patch that all of the bread and pastry products are made from the healthy 'dough.
"A lot of people come for just the sourdough in general," VanKeuren said. "It's what we're known for. All of our breads, including bagels, English muffins, and more, it's 100 percent sourdough, there's no yeast. There's no dough conditioners, and there's no preservatives. We're very proud of that fact."

For its sourdough bagels, Flour Water Salt Bread makes its own schmear, and even sells a pretzel bagel.
The other locations in the chain are in Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan, and products are made at its commissary kitchen in Stamford.

VanKeuren said opening in Fairfield was a natural step, with the town's welcoming vibe and two universities.
"We're super excited about our newest location," VanKeuren said. "Fairfield's been amazing for us."
The shop hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week with First Selectperson Christine Vitale, Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz, and state Rep. Jennifer Leeper.
At 1,200 square feet, the space the Fairfield location is in is the chain's largest, and includes indoor and outdoor seating.
"So the worry was, what if people don't want to sit down? What if people don't come, you know?" VanKeuren said. "As a business owner, you think about such things. But it's been amazing. I had no idea that the community and the student community would support us the way they do. It's been great."
