Southport Woman's Bad Day Turns into a Winner

The woman was a top prize winner for the CT Lottery's 'Lucky Holiday' ticket after originally stopping to cash in a $3 winning ticket.

Press Release

After a particularly stressful day at work last week, Southport’s Krista Grant stopped at a nearby convenience store to cash in a $3 prize winning “Cashword” ticket.

To Grant’s surprise, the retailer told her she actually won $20.

“I decided to buy a couple more tickets with the $20, including one of the pretty, new ‘Lucky Holiday’ tickets,” Grant said in a press release.

Later on, while making dinner, Grant grabbed a penny to scratch her tickets.

It was the “pretty” Lucky Holiday ticket that took her breath away, and turned Grant’s day from terrible to absolutely terrific—it was a $10,000 top prize winner.

“I immediately called my husband and told him I won $10,000, but he didn’t believe me. He told me to bring the ticket to my sister’s house so she could check it,” Grant told lottery officials with a laugh.

Grant said the $10,000 prize will be put to good use by paying off credit cards.

“This is literally a ‘Lucky Holiday.’ It’s incredible! And to think, all this started from a Cashword ticket that I thought was a $3 winner.”

Grant said she was particularly grateful to the employees at Wheels #47 at 786 Post Road East in Westport where her Lucky Holiday prize winning ticket was purchased.

“I was having such a bad day and they were so nice to me,” she said. “They really cheered me up.”

For selling the winning ticket, Wheels #49 will receive a $100 check from the CT Lottery.
