Stratford Resident Accused of Cashing Dead Fairfield Woman's Checks

The woman allegedly stole and cashed nearly $4,500 worth of checks.

Fairfield police have charged a Stratford woman with allegedly stealing and cashing nearly $4,500 worth of checks that belonged to a dead Fairfield woman, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports Valerie C. Gomez-Delavega, 34, of Woodcrest Avenue in Stratford, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday. She had been turned over to the Fairfield Police Department after being picked up by police at the Mohegan Sun casino who were investigating a report of a suspicious person, according to the Citizen.

Gomez-Delavega is accused of cashing six checks, which were made out to cash, belonging to the Rutland Estates Association. The deceased woman was the longtime treasurer for the association and the account was in her name, according to the Citizen.
