Suspect Accused Of Shoplifting Tools From Fairfield Home Depot: Police

Fairfield police discovered the suspect was wanted for alleged crimes in multiple jurisdictions.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A 37-year-old Waterbury man was arrested this month by Fairfield police, after authorities said he shoplifted nearly $300 worth of tools from the Fairfield Home Depot on Kings Highway Cutoff.

Hernan Aponte was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the Jan. 20 incident.

"Officers responded to a report of a male leaving the store with unpaid merchandise," Fairfield Police Sgt. Jenna Wellington told Patch. "The suspect was located nearby and taken into custody without incident. A power inverter and additional merchandise were recovered and returned to the store."

At the time of Aponte's arrest, Fairfield police discovered that he had "multiple active arrest warrants from Fairfield and other jurisdictions, with court set bonds totaling more than $300,000."

Aponte remains in custody, and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court at a later date.
