FAIRFIELD, CT — A 22-year-old Stratford man was arrested last week in connection with the theft of a BMW from a Fairfield car dealership last year, according to Fairfield police.

Kyle Lewis was arrested Oct. 23 on an active warrant charging him with larceny of a motor vehicle and misuse of dealer plates, Fairfield Police Sgt. Jenna Wellington told Patch.

The arrest followed an investigation that began Dec. 29, 2025, when a Fairfield dealership reported that a 2022 BMW valued at approximately $30,000 had been stolen.

Investigators determined that Lewis, who worked for a contractor that serviced vehicles at the dealership, had taken the BMW without permission, Wellington said.

During the investigation, Fairfield police learned that Virginia State Police had stopped Lewis on Dec. 26, 2025, while he was driving the BMW at 144 mph.

Lewis was arrested by Virginia State Police after allegedly sideswiping two vehicles and was charged with reckless driving and hit-and-run, according to Wellington.

The BMW was subsequently recovered in Virginia.

After resolving his charges in Virginia, Lewis turned himself in at Fairfield Police Headquarters.

"This investigation crossed state lines and required coordination with law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions," Wellington told Patch. "The case was handled by dedicated Fairfield patrol officers whose investigative efforts led to the identification of the suspect, recovery of the stolen vehicle, and ultimately the arrest of Lewis."

Lewis was released after posting bond on bail of $30,000, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Nov. 9.
