Driver Charged In Fatal Fairfield Crash That Killed Meghan Raveis

Raveis, 45, was struck and killed by a vehicle while she was walking on Redding Road in Fairfield on June 23.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A 51-year-old Newtown woman has been arrested on a charge of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash on June 23 that claimed the life of Fairfield resident Meghan Raveis, 45.

Meghan Rice surrendered to Fairfield police on Monday, and in addition to the vehicular homicide charge, she was also charged with Failure to drive right, and traveling unreasonably fast.

Rice was released after posting bond on bail of $100,000, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 31.

Patch reached out to Fairfield police for additional information, but a department spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on the 23rd, as Raveis was walking southbound on the northbound side of Redding Road. According to police, Rice was driving southbound when the vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane, struck a mailbox, and then struck Raveis.

Raveis, a wife and mother of three, was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was a member of the family that owns William Raveis Real Estate, and she was the Managing Director of the William Raveis Charitable Fund.

Rice remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

Since the crash, residents have stepped up efforts to get safety measures installed on Redding Road.
