Suspect Found In Deadly Fairfield Hit-And-Run: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — Police have identified a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run in Fairfield on the Fourth of July.

Marileidy Morel Araujo of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, had been visiting family in the area when she was fatally struck at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday while walking in the 2000 block of Redding Road.

The driver was located Tuesday night, according to police. Surveillance video showed the driver in a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, police said.

Police said they will request an arrest warrant for the driver and provide additional information Wednesday.

“The Fairfield Police Department would like to thank the several hundred individuals who provided potential leads and tips throughout this investigation,” police said.

A witness told police Araujo was hit by a Jeep Wrangler, but a medical examiner indicated she had been struck by a larger vehicle, Fairfield police said Tuesday night.
