‘Suspicious’ Device In Abandoned Car Wasn’t Explosive: UPDATE

Fairfield Police update on the 'suspicious' abandoned car that led to several evacuations and a road closure for several hours on Tuesday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — In an update on Tuesday night, Fairfield Police say a suspicious device that was left in plain view of an abandoned car near Mill Plain Green was determined to not be explosive in nature. Police responded to a report of a suspicious car just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29. Responding officers found the vehicle parked, blocking a portion of the roadway, with a suspicious device in plain view on the floorboard, according to Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Kalamaras said a perimeter was set up and several residences were evacuated for precautionary measures. Mill Plain Road was closed from I-95 to Mill Plain Green for several hours. The Stamford Police Bomb Squad responded and determined that the device, and materials contained within it, was not explosive in nature, Kalamaras said.

The Fairfield Police Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation into the suspicious nature of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or its operator is asked to call the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at (203) 254-4840, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637).

(Original Post) FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious vehicle in the area of Mill Plain Road at I-95. Police say that as a precaution, Mill Plain Road is closed to all traffic between Post Road and Sturges Road. Exit and entrance ramps to I-95 at Exit 21 are closed.

Police say to expect significant delays in the area.
