Sustainable Fairfield Task Force Receives Community Partnership Grant

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's volunteer Sustainable Fairfield Task Force was recently awarded a $10,000 Community Partnership Initiative grant to help make Fairfield residents aware of ways to improve their household energy efficiency.

The grant is from sponsors of Energize Connecticut℠ — Eversource and Avangrid, Inc. subsidiaries United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas.

"We are grateful that Energize CT’s Sponsors are providing such meaningful support for SFTF’s ongoing efforts to help Fairfield residents save energy and money in their homes," said Bob Wall, Chairman of Sustainable Fairfield Task Force chairman, in a statement. "The Home Energy Solutions program delivers straightforward and effective recommendations for home energy saving and, with Energize CT’s help, we now have resources for delivering this guidance to even more residents, especially those who qualify for a no-cost assessment."

Energize CT provides Connecticut consumers, businesses and communities the resources and information they need to make it easy to save energy and build a clean energy future for everyone in the state. The program is sponsored by the State of Connecticut, the state’s Energy Efficiency Fund, the Connecticut Green Bank, and local electric and gas utilities.

In an effort to make energy efficiency affordable and accessible to all, the Community Partnership
Initiative grants enable local community groups, nonprofit organizations and municipalities to further energy efficiency adoption and educate residents and businesses on the energy efficiency solutions available to them.

Sustainable Fairfield Task Force plans to use the grant to encourage participation by Fairfield residents in Energize CT’s Home Energy Solution – Income Eligible program, which offers a household energy-use audit free of charge to qualifying residents, based on income. The audit, which is also available to all other residents for $75, involves a visit by a Home Energy Solutions technician who helps the resident take advantage of readily implemented opportunities in their home for energy- and money-saving improvements, such as testing appliances for energy efficiency, sealing drafts, installing faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads, and switching lightbulbs to LEDs. The technician can also explain any further suggested upgrades such as insulation, new windows and heat pumps, and available rebates and incentives.

This is the second round of funding the program has awarded. Last year, the Community Partnership Initiative supported efforts in Bethel, Branford, Hamden, Middletown, New London, Waterbury, West Hartford and Wilton.
