Team Teddy’s Annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser In Fairfield Returns For 17th Year
This year's event will honor the late Teddy Gerber and his father, the late Bill Gerber, former Fairfield First Selectperson.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Team Teddy’s annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser will return to Fairfield's Osborn Hill School at 5:30 p.m. on March 13, continuing a community tradition that has raised more than $1.76 million for pediatric cancer research since 2010.
The event, now in its 17th year, is part of the national efforts of the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which funds research grants aimed at improving understanding and treatment of childhood cancers.
Team Teddy was founded in honor of Teddy Gerber, who was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma in 2009 at age 8. During his illness, he attended the school’s St. Baldrick’s event, where participants shaved their heads in solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment. Teddy took part in the program, overseeing the first head shaving of the evening — his older brother, John — along with several friends. He died nine months after his diagnosis.

This year’s gathering will also mark the first without Bill Gerber, a longtime supporter of Team Teddy, who died in July from glioblastoma. Family members said the fundraiser was an important way for him to honor Teddy’s memory. Organizers plan to recognize both Teddy and Bill during the March 13 event.
Organizers say funds raised through the event support research grants that help scientists study pediatric cancers and develop more effective treatments. More than $35,000 has been raised so far this year, contributing to the cumulative total of $1.76 million.
