An 18-year-old driver bent down to pick up his cellphone after it fell out of a cup holder and hit a bus, Fairfield police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A vehicle collided with a school bus Wednesday in Fairfield, according to police.

The incident occurred just after noon in the 900 block of Burroughs Road when an 18-year-old driver bent down to pick up his cellphone after it fell out of a cup holder, and, because his eyes were off the road, hit a bus, police said. The vehicle had to be towed and the bus saw minor damage, but no one was injured, according to police.

The bus was occupied by a small number of students, believed to be from Fairfield Warde High School, police said. The teen driver who struck the bus was issued an infraction for following too close, according to police.
