Teen Spat On Cop After Trespassing In Fairfield School: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield teen spat on and tried to punch police after being apprehended during the early hours of the morning inside an elementary school, according to law enforcement.
Officers responded just before 2 a.m. Friday to an alarm at Stratfield Elementary, according to a news release from the Fairfield Police Department. They searched the perimeter and found the building was secure, but about an hour later police received a 911 hangup from the school and returned to the property, the news release said.
The officers entered the school building, where they found a 17-year-old boy, who fled on foot, according to police. He was taken into custody following a brief struggle and his parent was notified, the news release said. When his handcuffs were taken off, the teen tried to punch an officer in the face, before being restrained and handcuffed again, according to police. The boy then spat in an officer's face, said the news release, which noted the teen is believed to have been intoxicated. The boy was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Upon further investigation, officers found damage estimated at more than $250 in a third-floor hallway and classroom. Like every school in Connecticut, the Stratfield Elementary building is closed for the duration of the school year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The teen was charged with burglary, assaulting an officer, interfering with an officer, criminal trespass and criminal mischief, according to police. He is set to be arraigned at the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport.
